North American Beaver stocking up his larder

All of the images of the North American Beaver are of residents past of the pond they created at the back of our land between us and the forest. Whilst it may not be the case for many rural living Americans, to a Brit these animals represented exotic wildlife.

It has been fascinating to have such close access to observe them in such detail.

This shot was taken after the Beaver had cut down this sapling, dragged it through the limited area of clear water. He was just beginning to submerge – taking the sapling with him – and heading back underneath the ice to his lodge.
